About Us

Since our beginnings in 1997 we have carried the finest fly fishing and fly tying products available.  Our large selection of standard flies and local favorites will have you prepared for the various fly fishing opportunities awaiting you in the north country. 

We carry Sage Fly Rods, Simms Waders, Ross Fly Reels, Cortland Fly Line, Orvis products and much, much more.  If you don't find what you're looking for please give us a call.  We can special order nearly anything!

Superior Fly Angler is owned and operated by Jeff Dahl and Matt Paulson and has been since its inception.  Jeff and Matt started the business in a small vacant shop in South Superior, WI and have grown the business to what and where it is today by offering great products, service, and advice for a fair price.  

"It's a labor of love" says Dahl.  "It's not very often that a person can run a business that pertains to something he absolutely loves."  Jeff is a locomotive engineer by day and fly shop owner by night.

Jeff also spends a lot of time on the Brule River, Kinnickinick, and other area streams.  Dahl, a Montana native, makes at least one trip back to the old stomping grounds to fish the Bighorn and other rivers back home.

Matt's love of fly fishing has caused him to travel the world in pursuit of exciting fishing adventures.  A veteran of fishing in Russia, Belize, and other exotic places has given Matt the experience on both saltwater and freshwater needed to help you make the right product choices for your favorite type of fishing.

Most people around here know Matt as a world-class fly-tier as well.  Matt has had several of his original patterns published in various books, articles, and other material and is the main instructor for our fly tying classes.  When you take a fly tying class from Superior Fly Angler, you're learning from one of the best fly tiers in the world - Matt Paulson.
